The Crena Table

We designed this new table for our little breakfast nook. While designing this table, Cade drew inspiration from childhood memories of watching his father and grandfather turn massive, monolithic pieces of steel on the machine shop lathe for heavy industrial farm and mining equipment - work they still do today in Marana, AZ.

The central post was turned from solid stock with a 1/64" tolerance, to a crenelated form which pierces through and expresses itself, flush with the table top. This decorative detail was a riff on the arm rest of the primitive wood bench that sits adjacent to the table - a gift from my grandma. (Thanks Murph)

The finish, reminiscent of aged pewter or smooth concrete, was achieved by sandblasting with a fine glass then burnished on the lathe and sealed with a corrosion inhibitor.
